What is Incident Management?

Incident Management is a key piece of the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) information puzzle. It's a process used widely across industries with a considerable level of risk to the wellbeing of workers and the environment, such as Aerospace, Construction, Manufacturing or Oil & Gas.

The aim of deploying an Incident Management system or procedure is to reduce risk through appropriate levels of investigation, remediation tasks and actions taken after a worker reports that an EHS incident has occurred. These actions are what prevent a similar incident happening again in the future.

Why give it an annual month?

For the month of November each year, Pro-Sapien is all about Incident Management. Despite the benefits being widely recognized, many EHS departments still struggle to garner investment to either update existing, no longer fit-for-purpose software or to deploy a system for the first time.

However, having a system in place is not a silver bullet: workers have to be happy to use it, too. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) estimates that around half of all severe workplace injuries go unreported. This can be down to a number of reasons, such as fear, effort, ignorance or other.
